Hi,

I have been thinking winter times with our Fluence. Here in northern Finland we get very low temps during winter. Can -34 celsius temperature break fluence battery pack? Is is safe to drive Fluence when battery is this cold(Does it even "GO" if battery is this cold)? Should I arrange battery heating system that activates if ambient temp goes below -10 celsius?

Hello, I read in an article that cell temperatures below -25°C can be critical because the electrolyte can freeze and destroy the inner cell structures, so it should be ensured however that cell temperature does not fall below -25°C.
Ist das nicht gut ?
Ja ! Das ist nicht gut !

Norwegian Leafs seem to have cell heating elements. I would say -30°C is too low for proper operation.

Hi,

I found this interesting Fluence battery spec sheet. It confirms what you two said before.

In Austria they are not equipped with battery-heating-funtion. I checked the cableharness and there is no possibility to reverse the electrical current in the peltier elements. There is also no additional heater equipped.

I can imagine that this functionality could be available for cars in northern countries (like Nissan Leaf GEN1).

If I would be in your shoes, I would phone "Reanult Service Center" from Finland. I am sure they can forward you to an specialist.

You can't see the heating from outside. Leafs use Heatmats that are attached to the cell blocks. They are operated directly by the 400V and the relay for turning them on is in the battery. However, I guess this relay is triggered via an external connector.
I removed these heatmats when I dismantled a battery from a norwegian leaf to put the cells in my fluence. I've thrown them away as I had no use for them.
It's the white elements on the cells:

It's as with the Fuelengines, you also connect to heating plugs for Calix fr example, as in the past or did this stopped?
But, indeed, it's a prob.
Ask Norwegian if it is possible.
The Market their is huge in EV Vehicles.
