Make the Hyundai KONA electric a safer car by changing the action to "Driver's hands not detected"

The new Hyundai KONA electric, which is a fantastic car, has one safety flaw that I wish could be changed. Driving in Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and refusing to put your hand on the steering wheel - even after numerous warnings, the car simply disables the Lane Following Assist (LFA) but continues in the same speed!

This is dangerous. If the driver becomes indisposed/unconscious after activating SCC, the risk is that car will not stop until it crashes.

It would be much better solution to turn OFF the speed control, activate the Hazard Warning Flasher but keep the LFA active until the car stops if the car is not capable of detecting the driver's hand.

This should be a simple software change for Hyundai.

Let us see if we can get this changed.

DA kann ich dem Vorredner nur zustimmen. Das von Ihm gewünschte Verhalten kenne ich aktuell nur aus der Tesla-Ecke.

Agree completely. I often see news reports about Tesla drivers having fallen asleep while on Autopilot with the car simply stopping at the side of the road. While this is often spinned as "irresponsible Tesla drivers" (which may in some cases be true), it may in fact each time save lives or prevent injuries. The same of course if a driver is incapacitated for medical reasons.

If the smart cruise control or ACC with lane keeping assist is turned off after not detecting hands on wheel, the car may well crash into other cars.

VOLVO does nearly the same, they only deactivate the steering aid and adaptive cruise control and the car rolls on its own until it stops or crashes somewhere.

Its even worse when the Pilot System is not able to recognise the lines. Than it just deactivates the steering input without any warnings (just the steering wheel icon goes from green to grey) and runs with the speed set to the ACC until the fuel is completly burned or you crashed into something or someone

Gibt die verbaute Hardware des Kona das überhaupt her? Theoretisch sollte er ja dann auch völlig selbstständig einparken können...

Wieso nicht? Das Abschalten des Lenkassistenten ist ja nur eine "Sicherheitsmaßnahme". Stattdessen könnte er erst einmal an bleiben und nur das "Gas" abgeschaltet werden.

Verstehe ich das richtig es wird nicht die Geschwindigkeit gedrosselt bis zum anhalten, sondern nur der Lane Assist ausgeschaltet? Wer denkt sich so einen schwachsinn aus? Ich dachte immer das auto würde in so einem Falle anhalten und rechts ran fahren. Da kann man nur froh sein das solche Fälle wohl sehr selten vorkommen.

Das ist ja der Witz. Nach heutigem Stand der Technik wird er die Spur verlieren, weil irgendwann eine Stelle ohne ordentliche Markierungen kommt.
Besser wäre es, den Wagen langsam ausrollen zu lassen, so lange er noch die Spur hat.

In der jetzigen Ausführung wird er nicht nur mit vollem Tempo weiterfahren. Nein, selbst wenn er die Spur erkennt, schaltet er das automatische Lenksystem ab!

Jepp ist so. Stoppen tun so weit ich weiß nur die neueren Systeme bei den deutschen Herstellern und Tesla, rechts ranfahren tun die allerdings auch nicht sondern haun den Warnblinker rein und bremsen, zur Not auch auf der linken Spur
